Two explosions ended what could have been a triumphant day in Boston.
Spectators and athletes alike were left shaken as two bombs struck near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday. The attack left hundreds wounded and killed at least three; one of the dead was an 8-year old boy, according to a state law enforcement source.
Some of the injured who were rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital suffered serious blows that will require “serial operations” and amputations.
State officials examined the site and noted the blasts were 50 to 100 yards apart, stretching on the marathon course lined with spectators cheering. Witnesses close to the explosion said that the blast felt ‘like a huge cannon’. Authorities in Boston are still in search of bomb devices dismantled on the scene.
